From Samal Island to Australia: The Story Behind Our Latest Mango Harvest

Discover the story behind FIL-MANGO’s latest shipment of Philippine Carabao mangoes, harvested on Samal Island and prepared for Australian families this winter.

More Than a Beautiful Island

Just across the waters from Davao City lies the Island Garden City of Samal, part of Davao del Norte and one of the Philippines’ most recognised island destinations.

Samal is known for its tropical greenery, clear waters, coral-rich coastlines and long stretches of beach. The Philippine Department of Tourism describes it as the “crown jewel” of Davao del Norte, with several surrounding islets and more than 100 kilometres of shoreline.

But beyond its natural beauty, Samal is also home to hardworking communities whose lives are closely connected to the land and the seasons.

The Island Behind This Shipment

Our latest shipment of Philippine Carabao mangoes for Australia will come from Samal Island.

When the volume and quality available from our original harvest were not enough to fulfil all confirmed reservations, we made the decision to work with another farming community rather than supply only part of what our customers had ordered.

Our team and local partners identified suitable mangoes in Samal and began preparing the harvest for Australia.

This allowed us to protect the quality of the shipment while giving more Philippine farmers an opportunity to participate in the Australian market.

Carefully Prepared for Australia

Exporting fresh Philippine mangoes involves much more than simply harvesting and placing fruit into boxes.

The mangoes must be carefully:

  • selected and graded;

  • handled to minimise damage;

  • treated in accordance with Australian biosecurity requirements;

  • inspected and certified;

  • packed with full traceability; and

  • transported under controlled conditions.

Every stage requires coordination between farmers, harvest workers, treatment facilities, exporters, government inspectors and logistics teams.

The journey is demanding, but it is necessary to bring genuine Philippine Carabao mangoes to Australian consumers safely and responsibly.

Supporting Farmers Through Real Market Access

Every confirmed order helps create genuine demand for Philippine-grown produce.

For our farmers, access to markets such as Australia can mean more than a single harvest. It can encourage better farm management, improved post-harvest practices, stronger quality standards and greater confidence to invest in future production.

Our purpose is not simply to import mangoes. We want to help build a sustainable connection between Philippine farming communities and Australian consumers.

A Taste of Samal This Australian Winter

When your box arrives, it represents more than premium mangoes.

It carries the work of the farmers who cared for the trees, the workers who selected and packed the fruit, and the communities working to bring one of the Philippines’ most treasured varieties to Australia.

This Australian winter, we invite you to enjoy the sweetness of the Philippine Carabao mango—and to remember the beautiful island and hardworking people behind every box.

From Samal Island to Australia, thank you for supporting our Philippine mango farmers.
